Multi-Factor Authentication: The Control Every Organisation Should Start With

Why MFA matters, where to enforce it first and how to avoid making access unnecessarily difficult.

Passwords are not enough

Stolen and reused credentials remain a practical route into business systems. Multi-factor authentication adds a second check so a password alone is less useful to an attacker.

Start with the highest-impact accounts

Protect administrators, email, remote access, finance systems and anyone who can access sensitive information. Then move towards consistent coverage for every user.

Plan the user experience

Good implementation includes enrolment support, recovery methods, emergency access accounts and a clear process for replacing a lost device.

Do not stop at MFA

Access policies, separate administrator accounts, device compliance and user awareness all strengthen the control.
